"My name is Nikki Ruhl and I'm a registered Vet Tech in Templeton, Ca. I had a friend by the name of Dr. David Edsall, come to me and ask me to help him open a new vet hospital in our town. I told him I would not work for a vet hospital that did declawed. I find it to be inhumane and extremely unethical. Dr. Edsall looked at me and said .... "You know what ..... I don't ever need to do another declawed again in my career .... I hate doing them to begin with"! So we are the first and only vet hospital in SLO County, that I'm aware of, that will not do declawed! : ) And over the moon proud of this fact! Our hospital is called Las Tablas Animal Hospital. And we treat animals with compassion, care and ethical treatment!" - Nikki Ruhl, RVT Las Tablas Animal Hospital 959 Las Tablas Road STE A1 Templeton, CA 93465 805-369-2222

"I'm not the owner of the practice. I'm just a cat owner who had trouble finding a non-declawing vet. After visiting a few clinics, I went to the Culver Pet Clinic and they were the first ones that told me they do not declaw. It took me quite some effort to find one in the area, so was hoping that giving their details could make the search easier for future clients. The clinic doesn't really advertise NOT giving certain services, which I can understand. You could contact them and ask them permission to put them on the site. I am opposed to declawing cats. The procedure causes enormous pain, and most people don't understand what they are asking when they request their cat be declawed. I always insist they visit first to be totally informed.
It is also important that people consider what might possibly happen in the future if they declaw their cat--one never knows what might happen. A friend's daughter was traveling down I-10 with her cat when her car turned over. The cat--declawed on all four paws--was lost in the woods of Florida. Luckily there was a happy ending since he was found six weeks later, though he was severely emaciated. I know of another person who had a declawed cat that was turned out a night, stating the cat really liked to go out. This cat ended up being mauled by dogs.
I will never declaw a cat unless there is a medical reason necessitating the declaw.

We made it official that we won't be performing elective declawing this year. We have been educating our clients about alternatives, including the use of Soft Paws and providing appropriate scratching tools and teaching them to trim the nails at home for many years. We don't think cats need to lose their claws to remain beloved family members, and our goal is to teach people how to live with their cat's natural behaviors. The Cat Practice Oak Park IL 708-383-5997

I am the owner/veterinarian at Curbside Care Mobile Veterinary Clinic. When I opened my own practice in 2010, I made the decision to NOT offer declaw surgery as a service. When a client asks about declawing a cat, I explain the surgery to them, tell them why I think it is unnecessary and inhumane, and encourage them to consider other options, including training their cat and using Soft Paws. The last time I performed a declaw surgery was in 2008, and I intend to never perform the surgery again. I'm so thankful to own my own practice and finally be able to make my own decisions about what is best for my patients. Our goal is to provide high quality medicine in a compassionate, cat-friendly environment. We pay attention to the smallest details to enhance your cat's safety and comfort. You and your cat will have a quiet and comfortable experience from the moment you walk in. No barking dogs means a less stressful environment for your cat. Our exam tables and kennels are non-stainless steel to reduce noise and increase patient comfort. We use non-skid mats and towels for our elderly patients and others with mobility issues that may cause them to slip on the table.

We believe in considering the needs of the client and the cat when developing a care plan. We offer therapeutic laser treatments for conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, wound healing, and many other conditions. Alternative medicine options such as acupuncture and supplements are available. We perform in-house bloodwork, urinalysis, and ultrasound, and all ultrasounds are sent to a board certified specialist for interpretation.

We follow American Association of Feline Practitioners guidelines for vaccinations and deworming, and use only Merial PureVax vaccines, which greatly reduce the risk of vaccine reactions and injection site cancers.

Dr. Edwards is an Oklahoma native and graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent her first six years of practice in Colorado and Florida, and brought three feral cats from Florida to live with her in Oklahoma. She has special interests in geriatric medicine and pain management.

"You normally leave a message and they will call back- since they are only open 2 days a week they are always super over booked and busy because they have affordable prices and willing to help those in need with emergencies - I first hand had an emergency with a foster of mine and they saw him asap at the end of their day instead of sending me to a Pricey ER Dr. Becky Morrow is the Vet, President and Medical Director. (And she is AWESOME) They accept check or cash- or payment through paypal- no credit cards. But they do sometimes work out payment plans with their customers. They are a low cost clinic open 2 days a week, (Tues and Thurs). They do a lot of TNR and have a mobile unit. But they have full vet services. They are 100% against declawing." "Our veterinary hospital has made the commitment to you and your cat by becoming accredited by the American Association of Feline Practitioners as a Cat Friendly Practice. This designation confirms that we meet a comprehensive list of performance criteria to verify that our staff members are especially qualified and dedicated to making every visit as pleasant as possible and beneficial for you and your cat.

Our veterinarians provide Redmond and Sammamish with comprehensive veterinary care in a compassionate, caring, and clean environment. Redmond-Fall City Animal Hospital provides quality veterinary care for your pets through a combination of state of the art vet diagnostics, and a veterinary staff that is professional and committed to the highest medical standards. Our vet practice includes small animals, exotics, reptiles and birds, as well as cats and dogs! Redmond-Fall City Animal Hospital is proud to be accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. Only 15% of all small animal practices in the U.S. achieve this distinction. To attain our accreditation we met more than 900 veterinary practice standards developed by the American Animal Hospital Association. We voluntarily participated in a comprehensive evaluation which included a quality assessment review of the veterinary hospital's facility, medical equipment, practice methods and pet health care management.

Our team offers state-of-the-art care for your pets including preventive care, diagnostic medicine, dental care, X-rays, dermatology, surgery and cancer care."

As of April 20, 2015, no further declaw surgeries are being done at Blue Cross Animal Hospital Toronto. As times change, and as we learn more about pet health and behaviour, it is clearly important that we adjust our practices to always provide the best possible care for your pets. Over the years, Blue Cross Animal Hospital has stopped cropping dog ears, or docking puppy tails, believing these to be unnecessary and painful procedures. In keeping with current research, we have adjusted our vaccination protocols to avoid unnecessary vaccines and made changes to our spay and neuter age recommendations for several breeds. And now it's time to stop de-clawing cats. You can read more about our decision, as well as tips to keep your cat's claws from being a problem on our blog. Blue Cross Animal Hospital Toronto, Ontario
